We left a cold, sunny, and beautiful lake (30 degrees) at 0730 this morning. Wanted to get an earliy start as we had a short 200 mile drive to somewhere in Moab.  Moab, is the “gateway” town to Canyonlands NP, Arches NP, and Dead Horse SP. So we are centrally located to all.

With this being Memorial Weekend, the weekenders will be out in full force. Of course we don’t typically make campground reservations, as we are in the search of a “primo” BLM spot out in the middle of nowhere.

It was a very scenic drive on I70 eastbound.  We had to go about 50 miles out of the way, as the closest road from the lake over the mountain had not been plowed yet….. So we took the BFT where the Fords go….. on the hardtop….!

I had about 5 locations mapped out to scout where we can live, and the first one was wide open!   About 1 mile down a dirt road into a large gravel circle, with about 5 new picnic tables and fire rings. We spotted “East” to point the nose of the house towards and we called it home! East give us the maximum coverage for our solar panels.

After we set up, we drove into Moab to the visitor center to see what’s going on. We walked  out with 3 pounds of brochures.

On the return trip home, we drove the scenic byway 128 that shoulders the mighty Colorado River. Great drive.
