33 Years and still drinking from a mason jar!
So a couple nights ago we Boondockwd out at Cape race, a lighthouse at the end of a dirt road, who would’ve thought that?
It was a great spot we were sheltered from the wind. It was about 46° at night and but at least it wasn’t raining and there were no fog horns sounding off!We went north on route 10, which is the Irish loop and ultimately heading up and past St. John’s, which is on the upper east side of the rock. Along the way we needed water and propane. I dumped our tanks at a fire station that had a free dump the day before but they had no freshwater. So the search continues. So on our way, we stopped and got diesel and exchanged a propane cylinder for a full one and ask the lady about water and she said go to the next fire station down the road and they’ll help you out so that’s what we did.a
Now we have water and so we got all of our six elements completely stocked. What are the six elements you may say?
We travel on to the Avalon colony at ferry land. There’s a excavation that’s been going on for about 30 or 40 years where they have found the seaside town of Avalon dating back to the 1600s. Of course the main trade was codfish and the one thing I thought particular that I never gave much thought to before, was that in the 1600s one of the trading partners of Avalon County, were the new people in Amercia, they didn’t know they were Americans, but they were from Boston and Salem and another fishing community on the East Coast. For some reason, my little pee brain I don’t think of us doing any trade or anything like that until after 1776 and we kicked the BRITs ass, but anyways, codfish was a big deal in the new colonies in the Americas needed fish.
We spent the night there in the back of the parking lot of the visitor center, woke up the next morning to see a bunch of Wales frolicking in the bay right next to us. As as we know if you see a bunch of seagulls circling and diving in the water, you know the bait fish are there and the bait fish are called Caplin‘s and if there’s Caitlin‘s there’s whales feeding. This was the second time on this trip that we’ve seen Whales and we didn’t have to get out on a boat to go see them. We’ve see them all from land really pretty freaking cool.
So our six elements are, diesel, water, food, beer, Propane, and empty black and gray tanks. If you have all those you’re ahead of the game, so click the link below and you’ll see a YouTube video I took of us. I called ahead at the lighthouse, and ordered a picnic basket for us. All we had to do was hike up the mountain to get it and we sat outside in a beautiful sunny day overlooking the ocean, watching the waves crash against the rocks and celebrating our anniversary pretty cool.
Tomorrow it’s going to be onto bull Cove and eventually on the spear point lighthouse, which is the most eastern spot on land that you can travel.
