Smelling the Hay in the Barn, Bigfoot and Elkhorn on Separate Trails

29 Aug 2022

I wanted to give everyone an update, as it has been almost 2 weeks since my last post (sounds like a confessional). This is not goodbye, as I still have much to share with you about this journey of ours. Between terrible internet and just the grind of driving non stop since 17 August, I have not wanted to sit down and compose. Plus we have a ton of pictures we want to share also.

Bigfoot and Elkhorn have been trotting 250-300 miles per day for the past 12 days since we left our spot on the beach overlooking the Arctic Ocean in the sleepy little hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories.

The time has come when we go our separate ways. Elkhorn is heading to it’s barn in Spencer, IN and Bigfoot to its’ pasture in Statesboro, GA. We have 950 and 1660 miles remaining respectively.

Bigfoot is stopping in Isanti, MN to visit with family (Ann Marie’s sister) before proceeding on the final leg of its’ journey south, while Elkhorn will arrive home in about 3 days.

Currently we are at a Walmart parking lot in Jamestown, ND. The four of us went out to dinner last night to celebrate Ann Marie’s birthday (early). We laughed and joked, reminisced about our exploits, and are making plans for the future. As always, we had a great time, and who knew, after 136 days of traveling together we are still friends (right Virgil?). LOL

This is not “Good-bye”, this is “Safe Travels-Until We See Each Other Again”, in Wauchula , FL where we will be wintering for 4 months.

More to come.
