Devils Tower

22 September 2017
Yep, that is in Wyoming folks.

Left 7th Ranch  RV Camp at 1000 and had a great drive on I90 east. I had planned on taking Hwy 212 instead of the Interstate, but found out it is riddled with construction and pilot cars.

We arrived at Devils Tower National Park at 1500 hrs, setup in a dry campground inside the park for $10  a night and went to the visitors center 2 miles inside the park.

Devils Tower in the northeast corner of Wyoming is the country’s first national monument.  It is a jaw-dropping geological feature that rises 867 feet above Wyoming’s rolling prairies.

Devils tower is sacred to many Northern Plains Indian tribes, as well as the Kiowa Tribe, who made their homes in the Black Hills region. And of course we all remember it as the backdrop in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

There is a short 1.2 mile paved trail around the base of the tower that we decided to hike. The geology of this big rock is amazing, and views of it and the surrounding prairies were amazing. We saw a bunch of rock climbers climbing the vertical cracks of the tower.   What a sight !

After two hours, we were back at the BFT heading to the house.
