Del Rio, Tx and Laughlin AFB

November 15, 2019

We “landed” here on November 15 from San Antonio to the busiest pilot training base the Air Force has. Lots of buzzing in the air and the sound of freedom is amazing.

Off we go this morning to a farmers market, the museum, a winery, and maybe the lake. It’s not raining and 60°, and partly cloudy we’re taking advantage of it.

The farmers market was a bust so keep moving on…

The Whitehead memorial museum, while a small museum, sits on 2 acres of land with about 15 outbuildings which contained dioramas of many artifacts from Del Rio and the neighboring communities. So many treasures that were donated by locals in this museum really tell the story from the native American Indians, The Spanish, and the West in general. Very kool, and guess what? Ann Marie was “mainly” interested!

After the museum we went to Val Verde winery. Which is the oldest winery in the state of Texas third generation still running it. Only two types of red wine, sweet and dry. We didn’t care for either one of them but it’s OK.

We then headed toward Julio’s tortilla Chip factory which is a local iconic tortilla chip maker who has been making them for for about 30 years. They only took cash and nothing over a 20 bill and of course all I had was a 50. Ann Marie had nine dollars and I spent $7.75 on chips and salsa. Money well spent. These chips are the best ever, we can’t wait to buy some more!

They currently make 22 Tons of chips per day…Wow !

Check out their kool history.. http://julioscornchips.com/history.html

From there we drove south about 1 mile to the border saw the sign and decided nah, we’re good we will eat tacos in America and so we did.
