Rain, Sleet, and Snow

20 May 2018

We left our sunny BLM spot in Torrey for a stop at Fish Lake 45 miles away.  We were ready for trees and green grass.

Ten minutes after leaving it started to rain.  As we turned off Hwy 24 we entered through an open gate that stated the roads were only plowed during the day, huh?  We climbed in elevation from 6600 feet to 8900 feet,  What happens when you go up and it gets colder?  Yup, sleet,  then hail, then finally snow flakes! This road and part of the US Forest just opened up on May 15, now we know why…

What have we gotten ourselves into?  Three days off the grid, no cell service, no internet service, just the two of use with our books and thankfully we were able to have DirecTV.  The mountains did not obscure the signals. Time to catch up on all those shows we recorded.

The nights got down to 30 degrees, the daytime highs around 55-60, partly cloudy days but we were able to go strictly solar for all three days.  No generator needed.

Peace, tranquility and the beauty of Mother Nature.  We were able to re-energize ourselves for the next part of our journey.  The white pelicans, Canadian geese and two mule deer were the only wildlife we saw.  I was hoping for a bear but glad we didn’t see one! Very peaceful and relaxing.
