We drove 15 miles to the ferry terminal at Anacortes, Wa for an hour long ride to Friday Harbor on the San Juan Island. The BFT knows its way around ships and this was an easy ride. We had a beautiful sunny day (64 deg) as we explored the island. Our first stop was to the American camp, where we hiked about a mile down to “Grandma’s cove” looking for sea glass.

Wow we found a bunch of different colored glass as we walked around the beach, listening to the waves pound against the rocks even at low tide.

There is a scenic loop around around the island with about 8 points of interest. We stopped at four different beaches but none were as kind to us a Grandmas Cove. From one vantage point one our drive by a light house we could see Mount Rainier and also the Olympia mountain were we will be traveling to at the end of the week. Beautiful views as the weather really was perfect.

We saw a black fox, some rabbits, and a bunch of deer. We were hoping to see some whales but we not so lucky. Thats okay though, we remember seeing them on our Alaska trip.

Interesting story about the Brits and Americans. We almost went to war over a shot pig.
