Bryce Canyon to Capital Reef Canyon
This morning we took off taking Highway 12 from Bryce Canyon to BLM land outside of Capital Reef Canyon.
Before we take off George always plugs in the coordinates into the Garman and checks the Truckers Atlas to make sure the road we take is passable with the rig. So, when he plugged in the coordinates for the BLM land the Garman wanted us to go 100 miles out of the way to bypass a section of Highway 12 which had 12 degree rises and drops on the road thru the mountains. Since we had already driven the first 40 miles of the route to a state park just outside of Escalante we knew we could make it with the rig. So off we go. The poor Garman kept telling us to turn around and go back. Finally after we got over the mountain she relented and said ok keep going, lol.
George has been wanting an “action” on -the-road picture of our rig. We couldn’t resist the Utah scenery. We stopped at a pull-off and I walked 100 yards in front of and across the road. Then lucky for George, he stopped and picked me up!
Highway 12 is listed as a scenic route and boy are they right. We started at 7800 foot elevation, dropped to 5100 feet, then up to 9600 feet, wow what a ride. It took three hours to travel 120 miles through some of the prettiest countryside we had ever seen. Some parts were like we were back in Alaska, then in the Northeastern states, and then like we were in the plains of Canada. Wow, just wow.
Here is a short video of the drive.
We had scouted three different BLM spots through Google Earth where we could possibly live for a week or so , and the very first spot was open! In fact when we pulled in there was another fifth wheel RV just unhooking in the actual spot we wanted, but there was enough room around the circle. When George talked to the owner, he said if we were 5 minutes earlier, the spot could have been ours. No worries, we got a great spot, check it out! No Verizon, but great ATT.

After we arrived, we drove down the trail and ended up a stone quarry, how is this for a saw?
