For those of you that served our country to keep this day relevant, we salute you!
No rain this morning! No sun yet, but no rain. We took advantage and went for a 2 mile walk (with our bear spray at our side) around the post. Good walk.
Ann Marie was using the clothes washer, each load takes between 7-12 gallons of water. Our “gray water” holding tank is 60 gallons, so connected the turd wagon as “over flow” which was now full. I connected the arm of the turd wagon to the trailer hitch of the BFT and drove to the RV dump station.
As I drove the 50 yards down the campground road, I spot a big black bear, eating some grass or bushes. I stopped, she saw me, she turned her head the opposite way and started to walk away. I drove another 10 yards and stopped and watched her walk away, constantly looking back over her shoulder at me. Finally, she gave in, turned around and headed off into the woods.
Of course I did not have my camera or the bear spray, but I did have my compressed air-horn (to hopefully scare the heck out of her) with me. Yep I was on alert while the turd wagon “slowly” emptied……
I finished the “task” and went home, told my wife what I saw. She said “I wanna see!”. So after our showers, we got in the truck and retraced my steps. I said, no way we will see her now that we are looking for her. As a soon as I said, I see woman running straight toward our BFT with a paint ball gun and a rifle. Then the black bear ran from right to left in front of us, with a man with similar weapons giving chase. The lady takes aim at the bear and opens fire with the paint ball gun and the bear disappeared really fast into the woods.
They were both Game Wardens trying to deter the bear from hanging out in the campgrounds. I asked “what color” the paints ball were, and she said they were “pepper spray balls”. Oh, that makes sense….
I asked if this was the same bear with the two cubs, and they said, no, about an hour ago that bear was raising havoc in the housing area, (across the road). The bear had broken into someones house and tore it up.
OK, that was fun….and it is the Forth of July. Anchorage is having a big 4th of July festival downtown in 13 block area of green space called the Park Strip.
We arrived at noon-thirty, and the sun starts shining! YES. The Anchorage and Kenai area has had rain/clouds, the last 24 out of 30 days. The 60 degree sunshine feels great!
At the Veteran’s Memorial, the Declaration of Independence was being read aloud in front of a large group of Americans. We stopped, listened, remembered, wondered, and took note of what a powerful “Letter” that was to the King of England, and to us Americans.
The words on the plaque laid in front of the memorial was very powerful.
We strolled around looking and smelling all the food vendors, until the Russian food was found. We bought some borscht and pirogi, found some chairs in front of the “Liberty Stage” and settled in.
We listened to a few bands, watched many ethnic dancing performances, followed up the 9th US Army “Rock Band”.
We had a great day and as always, we are Proud to be American !

Glad you did not get eaten by the bear… ha
Guys, I always read your blog, but don’t comment. However, I gotta comment this time because I love your story about the rangers and paint ball guns!
