Ellsworth AFB. S.D.
FAMCAMP
I just love hearing the B1 takeoff and see the glow of those four engines. The sound of freedom is everywhere!
There is alot to see in this neck of the woods. We will use this place as home base to visit the Badlands, The Minute Man Missile site, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, and Crazy Horse.
We departed the house enroute to the Badlands State Scenic Loop, a 39 mile loop through the park. The loop travels a portion of “The Wall” formation of the Badlands stretches 60 miles, revealing sedimentary rock layers exposed by eons of erosion. A number of overlooks show off panoramic vistas where the surrounding grassland takes hold.
It is supposed to take an hour to drive this loop, but we made many, many stops to get out of the BFT and look around in amazement. Plus we were stopped by a heard of Big horn sheep taking their time walking down the road. Not to mention the heards of prong horn deers and miles of mounds for the prairie dogs, which Ann Marie found out like to have the picture taken.
The landscape, shapes, sizes, canyons, and colors are like none I have ever seen. SO totally kool.
