Wieners and the Deep Dish Chicago, IL
|
Chicago, IL
Today we drove to Chicago to the Elmhurst cemetery where Ann Marie’s father is buried. We wanted to make sure that the cemetery installed the headstone as we had ordered last year and when we got there sure enough it was there. It was great so we paid our respects and then departed for the Windy City.
The first order of business was to try Chicago’s famous deep dish pizza. When I googled, there are at least 10 joints that are recommended. We chose Bartoli’s which was number three or four.
I’ll have to say it was like eating a baked Italian dish. Eat it with a fork, and use a piece of bread to scoop up all the goodies. While it tasted very good it’s just not what I call pizza. Thin crust that you can fold is the best! Now off to our next adventure.
So we headed downtown to the Chicago Museum of history and as we got there we couldn’t find a parking spot to save our ass so we drove around for a good 30 minutes. We found a sign that said hot dog festival in Lincoln Park so guess what, we’re all about the festivals. Ann Marie was happy she was able to ditch the museum, so wieners it was.
Of course we just had pizza three hours earlier so one wiener and we are done. Talked to many people sitting around and enjoying some good jazz being played.
Then got in the BFT and headed home.
As we drove down Division Street we stopped at the bar Ann Marie’s father hung out at and drank and toasted an Old Style for him.
Another good day traveling and exploring.
