The Magic of the Tidal Push and Pull
St. Martins, Canada |
High Tide 4:44 PM 8.59 meters (28.18 ft)
So after we got our home set up, off we go.
We stopped and had a late lunch at the restaurant down the street. There are only two restaurants open right now because we are early in the season. We got a table right by the windows overlooking the bay. Off to our left we saw the caves that have been worn away by the rise and fall of the tide. Since it is high tide we will walk out to the caves tomorrow during low tide. After lunch we started exploring, driving around to see what would catch our eyes. A road we stumbled upon said Lighthouse Road so here we go. There must be a lighthouse somewhere around, right? At the end of the road you could see the lighthouse perched on a small cliff. Walking as far we could to the edge you could hear the roar of the reversing rapids. George made a video so you can get a feel of the tide going back out. About 200 yards out is a small red colored rock. Not much of it showing. We are definitely coming back in the morning to see it during low tide to make a comparison. As we were leaving we met a couple from Ontario, Shelley and Carl. After some chit chat about who we are, where we are from they said they were Geo Cachers and asked if we wanted to join them on a hunt. George and I had been curious about Geo Caching so of course we said yes. Into the woods around the lighthouse we go. Shelley and Carl teach Geo Caching so of course we got as much information about it from them. They were a delightful couple and very generous with their wealth of information, Shelley had the GPS and soon we were in the immediate area of the cache. Time to start looking around. As they explained it could be in almost anything and decorated in almost anyway. After a few minutes Carl found the cache hanging from a tree on a wire. I was a small jar wrapped in cammo duck tape. Yeah, mission accomplished. We signed our names in the cache and made our way back to the truck. After pictures and exchanging business cards we parted ways. It is amazing how many nice and interesting people you will meet in your travels. When we got back home we walked the beach, which is 100 feet from our house, to get a feel for Fundy Bay. The wind was very light, not at all what I expected from being on most coasts. The beach is covered in rocks. Rocks in all kinds of colors, shapes and sizes. The beach is mesmerizing. Your eyes try to focus on all of it but it sure has a hard time. As we were strolling I found my first piece of sea glass. Then the hunt was on for more. Only three pieces in about a mile of seashore. During our walk we met a couple that just bought a permanent site here at Century Farm Campground. They said they had been all around travelling but this place brings them peace. Yep, it seems like everywhere we go we find peace in this great land. Arriving at a new place, meeting new folks and finding sea glass. What a wonderful relaxing way to end our day.
