The land of the Viking

The land of the Viking
Minneapolis, MN
Minneapolis, MN Off we went to downtown Minneapolis to check out the US Bank Stadium the home of the Minnesota Vikings . As we approached the Minneapolis skyline you can see the stadium just to the left of the city with its impressive size against all the skyscrapers of Minneapolis. .
The stadium is a fixed roof stadium with a translucent roof and features the five largest pivoting glass doors in the world. Some fans were wearing sunglasses during this past Sundays preseason game, there is a lot of natural light inside! To allow for easier snow removal, the roof is slanted to allow snow to accumulate in safe areas. What? Does is it SNOW in Minneapolis ? Ha..Okay, the accumulated snow will move down the slanted roof into a heated gutter, which filters into the Mississippi River. It cost $1.061 billion and is scheduled to host Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018. We parked across the street from the stadium and walked around looking through all the windows to see what we could see. They were still working on the Viking ship upfront and also a large park/tailgate area for people to party before they enter the stadium .
The Viking souvenir shop was open and to my surprise there was no New York Giants gear there…. But my brother-in-law Jim was happy, as he bought a new hat and T-shirt to get ready for the year. I told him not to wear it on October 4 when the Giants play the Vikings because it would no longer be his good luck charm. ๐Ÿ˜‰ After the stadium we drove downtown Minneapolis and walked across the famed Stone Arched bridge that spans the not so mighty Mississippi River. Built in 1882 as a railroad bridge at St Anthony Falls, it is now a pedestrian Bridge to downtown. Very picturesque. A mandatory stop in Ann Marie’s old stopping ground is the Kramarczuks Deli. Opened in 1954 by a Ukrainian immigrant who had mad sausage making skills.
While placing her order to the guy behind the counter he commented on her spoon rings she was wearing, after some back and forth, she gave him her prized “Rolex” ring… He hugged her and couldn’t thank her enough and off we went. We got hungry we ended up at psycho Suzi’s where we had some drinks and some appetizers before we went back home to get ready for a little barbecue at the RV park Everyone came over, we had brats, hamburgers, tater salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, and drank some beer. We sat around and told some lies until the mosquitoes got the best of us and we called “uncle”…… a good time was had by all
