Snowbirdin'
Key West, FL
Key West, FL 7 Jan 2017 .. Happy New Year… and guess what? On the 15th of Jan, we have been full timing for one year ! It is hard to believe, as it feels like we are still on vacation, and we love it ! We have been to so many interesting places and have met new friends along the way, we are really blessed to be able pursue this life. I’m going to do a year-end wrap-up in an upcoming post. It has been a while since our last post, I apologize to leave you hanging, not knowing our status. We are good, but have been really, really busy…. So technically, we are not a “snowbird”, but we have to live somewhere, right? So why not somewhere it is warm, like Key West ! If you remember, when we first started our journey this past January, we intended to go to Key West, but we were too late, as the park was already full. So this time, we decided to head south earlier, so the Monday after Thanksgiving, we began our 780 mile trek from Augusta. We stopped one overnight at the Florida welcome center, and arrived on Wednesday the 29th of Nov at the Naval Air Station, (Sigsbee) in Key West. More about Key West in future posts, but lets get caught up over the last month and a half. So after the FROG RV rally in Gadsden, AL in October, we were going to head to east to Yesmassee, SC. But Hurricane Mathew was bearing down on the east coast, so we decide to keep our head down. We went to Hohenwald, TN until the storm passed and the debris was cleaned up in Yemassee,SC. We spent 10 days in Yemassee, visited kids and grands in Savannah, and then we went to Augusta for almost a month. During that time, we had our doctor, dentist, eye appointments, and seeing our kids and grands. So under the title of “Stuff Happens”, on our way to Augusta from Yemassee, while exiting a highway, I hit a curb on the exit ramp and bent the passenger-side spindle on the rear axle of the fifth wheel. I was going slow, but the ramp was real tight with no shoulders… SO we had a new axle ordered, and after 18 days it arrived, and Augusta RV installed it in 2 hours. Right after it was installed, we picked it up, and headed south to begin our snowbirding adventure. It was great to be with our family and friends again.
