Second Restaurant, not the first one !?! Rustico, Canada

Rustico, Canada
It is a nice sunny ride to Rustico Bay, about 10 kilometers away. We went past the first restaurant and stopped at the second one, The Blue Mussel Cafe. The restaurant is overlooking the bay with indoor and outdoor seating. As we entered the staff was very friendly. It is what you think of when you eat at a bayside place.
Our mouths were salivating looking at the menu. So we started with a Lobster Dip with crostini. It was delicious. The crostinis had a balsamic reduction drizzled on them which gave just a hint of flavor with the lobster dip, Yum! I had the Lobster mac and cheese and George had pan fried Haddock. The mac and cheese had large pieces of lobster and the Cesar salad I had had a most interesting item in it. Fried Capers! I have used capers in cooking before but have never had them fried. They were delicious and gave the salad another element of depth of flavor. With George’s dinner he had potato wedges that were seasoned and fried to perfection along with fiddlehead fronds and sauteed radishes. You could tell the Chef put everything into his creations and the results were phenomenal. We finish the dinner with coffee, fresh homemade blueberry pie and chocolate potato cake.
One of the owners stopped and asked about our meals so of course we raved about it and said we would be back. This was our new favorite place.
You always meet interesting people when you are travelling and today was no exception. Two ladies seated near us Shirley and Cindy were full timers with their husbands. They both own Airstreams and right now are having a girls trip without their husbands. What interesting folks!
We got our check and in order to pay we went into the kitchen where the register was. It was so nice to be able to compliment the Chef and his staff personally for the wonderful meal. I told him we would be back tomorrow and wanted to see what he would do with the scallops. He said he was up for the challenge. Tomorrow can’t come too soon to see another PEI Sunrise !
