President J Davis

Biloxi, MS

Well we are staying in Gulfport, Mississippi at the Seebee Navy base. Today we ventured out to the home of President Jefferson Davis, the only president of the Confederacy of the United States. Remember we are in the south and he was the president so it was cool to see the house that he lived in for 20 years of his life from 1877. At this house sitting on 52 acres is where he, along with his son wrote his memoirs of the rise and fall of the Confederacy. It was pretty interesting piece of American history, that in today’s time, is tying to get whitewashed.

It is a nonprofit organization that runs the house and property and you can tell they need more money to keep up with the grounds.

We rented a golf car (sleezy-go) so we could tour the 52 acres including a confederate cemetery. It was a 100 degrees so we took the path of least resistance.

There were seven buildings on the property before Katrina and after Katrina only the main house was left. The house at 18 inches of standing water on the main floor and has been rebuilt and still undergoing renovations.

After Davis dies, for 50 years later it was “old- confederate soldier” home.

American history is everywhere. Love it, God Bless America.
