Our First Border Crossing

Our First Border Crossing
Calais, ME
Calais, ME Oh, btw, sunrise here is at 0445am….are you kidding me, is the earth flat or what? Yeup, I’m up, thinking about this and Taproot for the last hour….. but that is another story.
We have been planning for this day for many months. What is allowed, what is not allowed, and what has to be declared to bring across the border. There are enough restrictions to make you think this is a pain the ass, but you know what, people cross the border everyday, and so will we.
Ann Marie gave away all her indoor plants (which she was not happy about) to a nice couple when we were in Wells, ME. Yesterday we gave a couple bottles of wine to the ladies at the desk here at Narrows Too campground. I have a list of booze that we (think) we are keeping, so stay tuned as to how much that will cost us. No brass, no ammo, no guns, no veggies, fruits, or unmarked fresh meat. I made a “”cheat sheet” of conversions (us to them), such as, our RVs height (4.1 meters), weight in kgs, length in meters, gallons to liters, km to miles. I have taped it to the dash in the BFT to help us remember. We have our passports, vehicle and RV titles, registrations, and insurance. We have an itinerary of where we are going and long we are staying (46 nights, 9 stops, 1400 miles). So all of our preparations resulted in a smooth entry into Canada. We rolled up to Customs and I handed the lady our passports, she asked for the BFT;s tag number, then she told me to take of my sunglasses, (which I did),She asked if we were retired, I replied yes, she said from where, I told her, then she asked in many different ways if we had a gun with us, on use, in our truck, in our trailer, on our bags, under our seats. She asked the same about pepper and bear spray. She reminded us that guns were not allowed. I nodded,
She then asked if we had any alcohol, and I replied yes, 8 bottles of beer, and 8 bottles of wine/liquor. She ask if that was for our consumption, I said yes, She asked if we had relatives or knew anyone in Canada, I said no,
She asked if we lived in our trailer, I nodded yes, she said that is a common thing. She then returned our passports and we were on our way !!! YAHOO !!
