Our drive from the casino three nights ago was a piece of cake. We drove onto I-5 heading north for 55 miles until we got to this campground. Nice short trip, which is exactly how we ate this elephant of a cross country journey.
This phase of our trip has been one of the best we have had. When we began, we had almost 3000 miles to drive, we broke it up into many, many, many (sorry…) small journeys. Not knowing where we were going to stay, whom we were going to meet, or what we were going to see along the way. No reservations, just winging it. Boon-docking helps with our flexibility, as our tiny condos can park anywhere!
As a side note, Bigfoot has traveled 5800 miles since Feb 27 of this year to get here and Elkhorn has traveled about the same. Diesel prices have averaged about $5 per gallon along this trip, and the price is rising.
So this is the evening of May 10th, we are at the Bellingham RV park anxiously waiting for the morning to arrive, much like Rich Strike felt at the gates in the Kentucky Derby.
Ya know, Bigfoot and Elkhorn are thoroughbreds as well. They have been in training for this journey for the past 4 years to the last frontier. They have come a long way, even though they are almost 20 years old. Their time is now and they are ready for the challenge, and their “odds” are better than the 80-1 Rich Strike had.
Remember, in 2020 when this trip was supposed to take place then Covid changed the world. But Bigfoot and Elkhorn stayed focus on the gate to open, to streak past the field of other campers, and are confident they will journey where few TC’s have gone before (sounds like Star Trek). We are all excited for the next phase of our journey on the Blue Canoe, we are all ready to go!
Tomorrow morning our SP time is zero 900. Bigfoot and Elkhorn have a few errands to run before we get the Alaska ferry terminal only about 5 miles away. The gates open at 11 and we have to be checked in by 3 PM for 6 PM cruise. We have no problems getting there early we’ve been waiting more than four years for this moment.
No pictures today.
The gate opens tomorrow.
