Niagara Falls, NY Danny, Allison, Owen and Luci came in last night, during their week long vacation to spend a couple of days with us. Today we all met Michael and Michelle and the boys at Fort Niagara. It was fun seeing the period clothed workers shooting the canon. It sure was loud. I am so glad that historic sites like this are preserved for future generations to enjoy and learn. Michael and Michelle are going back to Rome so the rest of us are doing the United States side of Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls must be experienced to be believed. The 167-high torrent of water that plunges with thundering impact into the Niagara River is a spectacle of sight and sound. The fall’s mist is thick enough to drench visitors who get close, a visceral reminder of the sheer force of the roaring cascade. Lunch at Marco Pizza, then a trolley ride to get to the Maid of the Mist boat tour. We all opted for a poncho except Danny. He braved the water coming off the waterfalls. What an experience. The sheer force of the water and wind off of it and the captain of the boat being able to steer and get the boat so close was exhilarating. What fun! Next stop Cave of the Winds. We took the trolley and were surprised when we got there to see people taking off their shoes and putting on Niagara Falls sandals. Once we took the elevator down and started down the walkway to the side of the falls we understood why. It was awfully wet. They have the walkway and platforms right along the side of the waterfalls. Hurricane deck was appropriately named. The force of the the waterfalls felt like needles as it hit your skin. Wow. This was better than any waterpark I have ever been to and a whole lot more fun. We treated ourselves to some ice cream after the waterfalls and then headed back to the RV park. What a day!
