Montpelier, The State Capital

Montpelier, The State Capital
Montpelier, VT
Montpelier, VT Woke up this morning in the sun was shining beautiful blue skies and 40 degrees, it’s bound to get warmer… On our way to the state capital of Vermont we noticed the marsh Billings Rockefeller National Park so we stopped in. We decided not to go on the working farm tour but instead got a brief overview of the area in the visitors center. Then we had to stop at Dunkin’ Donuts to get breakfast. George has been wanting some Dunkin’ Donuts for forever and since i did not make breakfast this was a good reason to stop. We got to the visitor center in Montpelier. It was a small building with lots of information was a very cheerfully lady who was the doppelganger of our friend Gloria. She looked just like her and if I didn’t know any better I would say it was her twin. We had a very nice conversation and she told us about to stuff to do. The capital was two doors down. We’re told Montpelier prides itself in being the only state capital without McDonald’s. Yes Vermonters are weird. Sorry Bernie. The grounds were nicely manicured. At the visitors desk they were kind enough to give us sticks for self-guided tours. You push the button to correspond to where you are and you get a narration of what you see. This capital did not have the over-the-top opulence in style and decoration. Next to the capital building was the State Museum. It was a nice looking building with the porch on the front. When asking the docent how old the building was she said the old one was torn down in the 70’s and rebuilt in the 80’s to look like the one from the early 1900’s. Fooled us. It looked old. The museum was not very large and basically took you thru the timeline from the Indians to present day . They did some hands-on exhibits for the kids which was nice. Then we had to have lunch so we walked across the street to a joint called the Positive Pie Bistro. This place is our new favorite place. We had a Canadian French dish called Poutine. It was hand cut french fries with cheese curds topped with homemade duck gravy. OMG. That was absolutely delicious!!! We also had 10 wings and a 10 inch pizza. Could not been any better. We walked the downtown streets for a bit then headed to Ben & Jerry’s for dessert, whether we needed it or not. Continued on next entry.
