A little background
Our good friends, Virgil and Delores bought an Elkhorn truck camper and Ann Marie and I (George) bought a Bigfoot truck camper. Our intentions were to travel the Alaskan Ferry System in 2020, and then Covid changed everything.
We we are back on track, and our journey will begin leaving Virgil and Delores’s house in Spencer, IN on 21 April, traveling to Troy and Karen’s house in Isanti, MN. After which, we will be in Bellingham, WA on 8 May, to get ready to board the “Blue Canoe”( slang for the Alaska Marine Ferry System) on 11 May.
This adventure entails two very different parts of The Last Frontier. The first is to travel the ferry system. We will have 7 ports of calls, through the Inside Passage, the Gulf of Alaska, South Central, and South West of Alaska.
After about 90 days on and off the Blue Canoe, the second part of our adventure is driving to the Artic Ocean.
Our last port of call will be in Homer on 8 August, from which we will drive across Alaska, into the Yukon, then the Northwest Territory. We will get there driving the most isolated road in North America, the Dempster Highway to the Arctic Circle then north to swim in the Arctic Ocean!
