Pacific Beach RV Resort (Navy)
We had a short drive on the 101 south along the coast in the hope of staying one night at an old Navy Base, that has turned resort. Yep no problem, got a dry camp site with lots of sun. My only problem was totally self induced….
Inside the campground (which was made for tents and small trailers), as I was turning onto the road , I cut the corner short and put the passenger-side tires of the trailer in a culvert. Buried it good, the rig tilting to the right, I tried to back up and could not get over the hill, so I put in drive, and gunned it…. Yep the BFT got it out of the ditch, and got lucky, the only thing damaged was the spare tire carrier under the rig got bent up a bit… No body damage to the trailer and everything still works. Got lucky, shit happens.
After some time to calm down and realize s**t happens, we had some dinner at the snack bar and then headed to the beach. One lady we talked to said the walk down to the beach was nice but hard coming back. Yep, she was right. The walk down was a steep about a 6 percent grade, which means that much going back up. Well we are up for the challenge.
The beach was vast and expansive. Tide was out so we had about 200 yards of beach to walk before we even got to the ocean. Absolutely beautiful. At about 50 yards down there was a layer of dead crabs that the tide had brought in. All sizes with no rhyme or reason why they were there.
Ann Marie enjoyed getting a few shells, but no beach glass. We walked around and got our two miles in so we headed towards the very steep hill. Nice and slow we made it and called it a night.
There is a “whale watch” tower in the campground overlooking the ocean. I went there at sunset and witnessed an awesome sunset. Not the best, but it happens everyday, so it is still pretty koool!
Very nice, not very well known jewel of the Pacific Northwest.
