Hi Ho the Derry-O the Border We Will Go
Winnipeg, Canada |
We waited in line at Customs for 45 minutes before getting questioned by the agent. Bottom line is we have no guns and we have too much booze. I told him we had 10 bottles of wine, 7 bottles of liquor, and 14 bottles of beer. He said he would not make us pay a duty tax but we had too much for personal consumption, and the next time we cross the border we may not be so lucky. So it’s party time…. got to liquidate.. Lot of strong wind the whole way north it was difficult to maintain a speed. I tried drafting behind 18 wheeler as much as I could. We arrived at the KOA 15km (yep its metric folks) west of the perimeter parkway around Winnipeg. The campground is undergoing renovations due to a flood last year. Upon checking in the desk clerk said go find a spot in a certain area and come back and pay up. OK, so we find a spot, and no power, I get my multi meter out to confirm, and then check the next site, and no power. Then, as if sent from heaven, an electricians truck pulls up, and they tell us they will have a new 50a box wired up within the hour. Wow, ok, sounds good.
So of we go to the Manitoba Museum in downtown Winnipeg. We arrived 1 hour before closing and the girl said, it would be half price and we had to hurry. So for $3.50 each, we said we could handle it, as Ann Marie likes to “skate” or “sleep” through museums, so to hurry would not be a problem. As ya’ll know I am not a museum person but I have to admit the museum was very interesting and well put together. I like when the museums have interactive things and tell a story. This one did both. They have arrows on the floor to follow so you get too see all of the exhibits. The dioramas were very life like. Even the dinosaur stuff was interesting. One of the most interesting exhibits was a full size replica ship, the Nonsuch. After the museum we walked about 20 minutes along their waterfront to the “Forks Market” which is at the convergence of the Assiniboine and Red rivers. What an interesting market. Lots of specialty stores and food courts. Anything you want you can get. We decided to eat at the Beachcomber restaurant. It was a casual place with high end food. We sat in the atrium because it was just a bit too cold to sit outside. There were some hearty souls who did. We had mussels in a spicy tomato cream sauce for an appetizer with good Italian bread, yum! George had Chicken Oscar and I had Spicy pasta. Good thing our truck was a twenty minute walk away because we needed that exercise to walk our that dinner off!
