Concord, NH
So what if we go to see another state capital? This time in Concord. Our ride was beautiful as we made our way through winding country roads following a river name after some Indian.
As it turns out we parked right across the street from the Capitol building. The Dome is under repair as it was covered in scaffolding. It was a beautiful day, the sun was out as we walked up the steps of the Capital Building.
We went into the gift shop and inquired to the rules about visiting. A tour was starting shortly with fourth graders and the Representative for their school district was there to welcome them. We started talking to Representative Edith “Dee” Hogan and what a treat we had. She explained how the representatives are elected, what compensation they received, ($100.00 per month) and then very graciously gave us a personal tour of the capital. What a treat. She embodies what all of our politicians should be. Serving for the greater good of her constituents and not for monetary gains. She is so old school that everyone in her district can just stop by her house and she will talk to them. You sure don’t find that in this day and time.
After the tour of the Capital we went to the Historical Society for a tour. They do not have a state museum so the Historical Society has a very limited amount of history It was underwhelming. We tend to rate the Capitals and Museums and by far this one is our least favorite.
Lunch at a small deli across from the Capital was really good. I had a chicken salad sandwich that rivals the good ones in Augusta.
After we drove and took in all the sights on our way home.
