Augusta, ME
So we lived in Augusta, GA for more than 25 years. Some quick comparisons:
Augusta, ME – State Capital – 18,000 people, ninth-largest city in Maine, third smallest state capital in U.S., behind Montpelier, VT (been there) and Pierre, South Dakota . Summers are typically warm, rainy, and humid, while winters are cold, windy, and snowy. Home to the University of Maine at Augusta
Augusta, GA- 580,270 people, (including Richmond County) second-largest metro city in state. Short, mild winters, very hot, humid summers. Home of the Masters.
Seems like two extremes for cities, can we please find some middle ground? We will somewhere in our travels.
So the Augusta ME State Museum is one of the better museum we have seen in our travels. This museum had three floors of exhibits that were made in Maine. Cars, Ships, guns, pottery, trains, looms, they had it all here. In the center of the building they had a waterwheel powering all their antique equipment by huge leather belts.. The animal exhibits were true to life and very well done…. Cudos Augusta Maine!
