And Away She Goes!
Merritt Island, FL
Merritt Island, FL AM: Just got back off the pier after watching the rocket launch. Anticipation this morning was great. Wind was 15-25 miles per hour and there was only a 30% chance it would be a go. We got a go. At this campground they have a loudspeaker announcing the countdown and it was exciting to hear as all the systems gave a “GO””. The delayed sound of the launch was thunderous as it came across the Banana River. All I can say is WOW! Another check off the bucket list! G: Wow….what a sight ! The temperature was 50 degrees with 15-25 mph winds, so we did not know if the launch would happen. We left our house at 0815 and walked out to the (long) pier for a 0835 launch. We were with about 25 of our snowbird friends and watched the rocket take off on time and what a sight it was! Once the rocket launched, it took about 30 seconds before the sound wave of those massive Pratt and Whitney engines on that Atlas V rocket reached us on the pier. What a rumble….It was cool looking up and seeing the rocket booster engage and seeing the “flame” slowly go out of sight as the rocket entered our earth’s atmosphere. Awesome.
