A few quacks
Monroe, LA |
Duck Dynasty. Reality show about a family who makes duck and deer calls, have interesting family members, chronicle adventures they have and expound upon the importance of family. History: Monroe, LA is only about an hour from where we are at our Rally in Vicksburg, MS, so off we go to explore. Since we left early and we didn’t have breakfast we had to stop somewhere. Then we thought of Haskells….Remember.. there was one episode the guys had a donut eating contest at Haskell’s Donuts. So in we go and I had a huge apple fritter and George had a chocolate covered filled long john. They were so big they were put on a large oval plate with fork. Yep, you needed the fork. Delicious! When we arrived at the Duck Commander warehouse, it looks exactly like pictured on the series. Except, there is a large gravel parking lot in the front and it can be seen from the main road. I thought it was in a more rural setting….TV… Upon entering the building, you are greeted by a young person, who wants to take your picture in front of a big green screen set up for pictures. Of course we got one. As we looked around, yeup, we walked into a big gift shop, merchandise galore to be bought. We signed up to take a tour of where all the Duck Call magic happens. Our tour guide Antonio was very cordial and informative on how the company grew and is at its current location. He took us through a part of warehouse until we got to the white doors where the call are built and the beards are a plenty….The “room” that is shown on TV.
No kidding it was exactly like you see it. The tables, chairs and tools are all right there. Of course we both had to sit in Uncle Sy’s chair.
Antonio instructed us in the making of our own duck call. It got really loud in there with everyone testing their duck call. As we left the tour, we were each given a hat and bobble head. All in all a cool low key tour, just as it should be..simple, simple, simple.
